i'm coming to this game from worlds of warcraft. i saw the screens and watched the videos and i was floored. the game looks gorgeous. i can only hope that it plays just as good.
i know that the team that made this made some of the early blizzard titles so i hope that they take a lesson from blizzards screw up with wow.
i can't wait for the release and the next beta weekend.

Don't worry, it plays just as good, if not better, than it looks.

Just so that I could make an honest comparison between GW and WoW, I installed my brothers copy of WoW last night and played it for a game. I honestly cannot understand what people find so entertaining about that game! I was bored to tears within 10 minutes of (finally) gettting onto the servers.
Trust me, you will NOT be disapointed dude, GW from what I've seen seems to have the best aspects of every online RPG style game thats out there to date. And what it does lack, is being improved upon likely as we speak. It's going to be one of those gem's you'll play for years to come methinks.

the best part is its free...there were so many problems with wow. although it was a game with endless potential blizzard really knew how to destroy it.
i hope the patching system for this isn't as bad...any guild recruiting?

What patching system? New content streams in constantly as you're playing. And God Bless Them for that move! Again, I had to sit and download a 125 meg WoW patch last night before I could even try to log in..which was then hampered for 6 hours by server problems.
ANet seems to really be doing their homework with this game imo. (im not bias, I swear)

Streaming game content rules...
At most you will have to close out of Guild Wars and renenter, taking about 5-10 seconds. There have been some 56k complaints about having to download so much before entering PvP but I never had a problem with it personally when I was on dial-up.
Check out the Guild Auditorium for some quality guilds.

Their should be less of a problem for those on Dial-Up once the retail release is out. They should then have the option of loading the full game and maps to hd. Then they would only need the new streamed content and not the base map and areas.

The streaming content is definitely nice, I just need to get off of this ridiculous DSL line which is only letting me download at 26 KB/s max, making for incredibly long download times for the files at the start of events. Once I get up to La Crosse next fall and start college, it'll be an ethernet connection and no looking back from there

There are currently some annoyances in downloading with dialup, but that should not be the case in release. The problems come in when you don't have all the data for the maps, the armors that the other people are using, their pets, etc, all of which is information that should be included on the CD you get when you buy the game. Once you've got the full version installed from CD, there should only be small downloads, with content that is new or changed since the last time you played. Since there probably won't be too huge of changes after release, other than new content that is added, there won't be nearly as much to download.
If there's just changes to maps or things like that, the game automatically downloads the stuff for the changes for you, saving the need to download a patch. For some major changes, you have to get a new build, which basically just means that you exit the game and open it up again- you'll download the stuff for the build(100k-1MB generally during BWE's), and be right back in playing the game- no several hundred MB patches to download or anything like that.

I recently upgraded my DSL line from a local ISP (384k up/768k down, had it for some 6-7 years) to a Speakeasy line with 768k up/6.0m down. My neighbors on Optimum Online can't even touch my speeds now, and GW streams things in a blink. It's awesome. If you have slow DSL, I highly recommend you check into Speakeasy.net and their DSL options.
Anyway, more on topic, to clarify the release 56k deal, the content as of release will be on the retail CD(s) so there won't be as much streaming as during the BWEs. You'll already have everything and only need updates (as was mentioned.

It plays far better...or far worse, depending in who you ask
Be warned though, that GW is not an MMORPG in the 'traditional' sense.
Comparing WoW and GW is like comparing apples and oranges.

Well, me and my brother will be playing, we have 3meg broadband and it was running fine, heh very well put about the apples and oranges deal IceD'Bear.
Having never played any MMorpg sorts of games i guess GW is a great way to enter the world of MMorpg's.
